Introducing his handmade "Bamboo Pen Holder" by Ichiro Iwao (2nd generation Toyonan Iwao), a Beppu bamboo craftsman from [Iwao Nozomu] in Beppu City, Oita Prefecture.
This is a custom-made product that was specially made by ordering only a small amount.
Ichiro Iwao participates in many craft exhibitions both in Japan and overseas.

The delicacy of manual work is to avoid the knots on the bamboo when making the sword. The machine can only make one sword, and when he bends the finished sword, the knots swell ugly and do not bend flexibly.
"This can't be done with a machine at all!" Was offered to me as a bamboo stick with a width of 2 mm and a thickness of 0.5 mm. It's a bamboo stick that makes you laugh when you see it, but it's odd to make it by hand. The reason why it can only be made by hand is that bamboo has "knots". It seems that the machine cannot adjust the knot part because the way of applying force is different from the other parts. In addition, depending on the bamboo, it may be soft or hard, and there are 626 types in Japan alone, so we identify the character of each bamboo and use it in the right place. Mr. Iwao is particular about the fact that all of the bamboo work, "starting with the selection of bamboo, processing the bamboo, knitting, dyeing, and finishing with lacquer," is carried out consistently in our own workshop. By doing so, he has a system in which quality control is perfect and he can take responsibility for the finished product. He is working on manufacturing with a spirit, saying, "If you pick up the product, you should be able to realize the goodness of our product."
